Who are we?

Adventure Management Consultants (AMC)

is a combined partnership between

Mark Sinclair, Cliff Lowther and Chris Conley. 

​

Between them, they hold a wealth of experience and expertise in Education and the Outdoor Industry.  This includes providing technical advice and support to Outdoor Centres, acting as expert witnesses in court proceedings, running National Governing Body training and assessment courses, delivering in-house training and assessments and reviewing documentation such as policy, procedures and risk management / assessments and assisting with Adventure Activities Licencing Authority (AALA) licences and Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge applications.

Adventure Management Consultants hold comprehensive professional and public liability insurance for the delivery of all aspects of technical consultancy.

Meet the Team

Cliff Lowther

Cliff is an independent professional outdoor practitioner and owner of Roxcool who has been working in the industry for over 30 years.

 

He has been a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) since 1992 and holds the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI) and Winter Mountain Leader (WML) qualifications.

 

Cliff is a Course Provider and Director for all Mountain Training Walking and Climbing qualifications (with the exception of the new RCDI) and has been delivering courses on behalf of Mountain Training for over 25 years.

 

He has led multiple overseas expeditions to developing countries such as Cambodia, Ecuador and Peru.

 

Cliff holds a BA Hons in Education and Training.

 

He is also a fully qualified Arborist.

 

His most recent work has been managing the tree survey on behalf of GirlGuiding UK based at Blackland Farm along with conducting In-House ropes sign offs for Blackland Farm returning staff.

Chris Conley

​

Chris is an independent professional outdoor practitioner and has been working in the industry for over 20 years.

 

He is a full member of the British Association Of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML) and holds the International Mountain Leader (IML) and Winter Mountain Leader (WML) qualifications.

 

Chris is Vice Chair of the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) and advises the technical panel.

 

He is a Course Provider and Director for both Mountain Training and British Canoeing. His list of British Canoeing credentials is very extensive - They can be found on Paddles Up training under 'find a provider'.

 

Chris is also a Rock Climbing Instructor, Climbing Wall Development Instructor and Foundation Coach. He is also a European Ropes Course Association (ERCA) instructor and an AAP for the DofE Award Scheme.

 

Chris, along with Mark, won the Prince of Wales Award and Ulysses Trust Award for Best Overseas Expedition in 2016 where they led a 365 mile, 10 day canoeing expedition down the River Yukon in Canada.

 

He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

 

Chris is currently working for GirlGuiding UK at Blackland Farm delivering PaddleSport Leader Training and Assessments to some of the returning and senior staff, and is booked to deliver the new Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Course (PSRC) and Paddlesport Instructor (PSI) to the new trainees in April.

Mark Sinclair


Mark is an independent professional outdoor practitioner and has been working in the industry for over 20 years.

 

He is a full member of the Mountain Training Association, British Association of Snowsports Instructors and Course Provider for British Canoeing.

 

He is also a Course Director for City and Guilds and an AAP manager for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

 

Mark is a Mountain Leader, Snow Sports Instructor, Rock Climbing Instructor and holds multiple British Canoeing leadership and coaching qualifications. He is also a European Ropes Course Association (ERCA) instructor.

 

Mark has held the post of Operations and Training Manager for 4th Dimension Ltd, based at Blackland Farm, for the past 5 years. His key responsibilities are staff training and development, along with writing and reviewing procedural documents such as operating procedures, policy, risk management and assessments.

 

Mark works extensively on multiple AALA and LOtC applications each year and is very experienced within this field.

 

He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), a Degree in Management and Training and a Diploma in Social Work (SEND).

 

Mark is a member of the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres (AHOEC) and a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society (FRGS).

 

Mark has recently been delivering PaddleSport CPD on behalf of GirlGuiding UK for Blackland Farm Senior Instructors in order for them to maintain their qualification currency.
